Passion fruit is an exotic fruit originated from Brazil.In India it is grows wild in the Nilgiris, Wynad, Kodaikanal, Savroys, Coorg and Malabar. Recently its cultivation has been extended to some areas of Himachal Pradesh, Nagaland and Mizoram.

There are two recognized varieties –Purple (Passiflora edulis Sims) and Yellow( P.edulis var.flavicarpa). Purple varities are more productive, fruits are larger but poor in juice content and flavour, higher in TSS, acids and carotenoid pigments. Yellow varities are more in juice content and flavour, with less TSS and acids.

Passion fruits are propagated by seeds, cuttings and grafting on resistant rootstocks.
